Just when you thought Joe Dumars was going to make a good move after picking Michael Curry last year, word out of Detroit is that Avery Johnson is no longer in the running for the Detroit Pistons head coaching vacancy after the two sides could not come
A championship can buy anyone in professional sports some job security, and Joe Dumars is living in that safe haven as we speak.Architect of the 2004 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons, Dumars masterfully crafted his team.He traded icon Grant Hill in a package
So here’s the deal with the Pistons, according to Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp: Rip Hamilton and Michael Curry now “barely speak to each other,” which began during the season when Curry moved Rip to the bench to make room for
George Blaha has followed the Pistons daily for more than three decades and knows this season has had more than its share of trials, yet rookie head coach Michael Curry has maintained an even keel throughout.
Thanks to a three-game winning streak and a pool of bad teams treading water behind them, the Pistons finally secured a playoff berth Friday night. The next step is to secure a high enough seed that will allow them to avoid Boston and Cleveland in the opening round.
Expectations have shrunk since the Pistons reached their high-water mark of 10 games above .500 in early January, but at least their season won’t end next week.
“We’re glad that we’re in,” head coach Michael Curry said. “Hopefully we can get the best position possible but, more importantly, just keep playing better basketball and let some of our injured guys get their legs up under them.”
With three games left, the Pistons could be anywhere from a No.
The Pistons have been playing with fire for the past three months. Now, they’ve got to catch fire or their hopes of making the playoffs will crash and burn.
After losing to woeful New Jersey Wednesday, the Pistons are three games under .500. They are clinging to the No. 7 playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with both Chicago and Charlotte in hot pursuit.
They play a road game against Philadelphia, which is battling Miami for the No. 5 spot, on Saturday afternoon and then face the Bobcats Sunday at The Palace.
“We’ve put ourselves in a situation where we’ve got to win those two on the weekend,” coach Michael Curry said. “We’ve got Philly and Charlotte and those are must-wins for us.” The Pistons beat the Sixers Sunday at The Palace, 101-97, with offensive…
The return of Richard Hamilton gives the Pistons renewed hope of a strong finish.
After missing six games with a left groin strain, Hamilton poured in 31 points Saturday night as the Pistons snapped a three-game losing streak at Washington. They’ll play the second half of a back-to-back Sunday against Philadelphia at The Palace.
“I felt pretty good, other than I missed so many easy shots,” said Hamilton, who made 11 of 29 field-goal tries. “I got up 29 shots? It felt like I missed 29 shots. But I hit them when I had to.”
The Pistons won only one game during Hamilton’s absence. They’ve also been playing without Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson.
Coach Michael Curry did not feel the need to ease Hamilton back into action.
The injury news regarding Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson has not improved in recent days.
Wallace is doubtful to return for the team’s two-game Texas road trip at Dallas Tuesday and Houston Wednesday. He’s missed three games with a left calf strain.
“He’s still not able to run yet,” head coach Michael Curry said. “I won’t say he’s out for the Texas swing but I doubt it. This late in the year, with a muscle injury, I want to see him a couple of days on that court before we put him out there in game situations.”
Iverson has missed the last nine games with a sore back.
He’ll be reevaluated by back specialists this week, possibly Wednesday, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
