Bad Times in Detroit: The Detroit Pistons are a mess. That probably shouldn’t be a huge surprise considering two of their better players (guards Allen Iverson and Rip Hamilton) – and over $30 million in salary – play the same position; they traded their leader (point guard Chauncey Billups) for one of those players; that same player sent the long-time starter at the position to the bench; their rookie coach is being questioned; they put themselves in position to cut a lot of salary for this summer; and for the first time in years not every home game is a sellout.

Allen Iverson says he will come off the bench if that’s what’s best for the Detroit Pistons. Iverson attended the team’s practice on Thursday after visiting doctors at Georgetown University in Washington. He said in a statement that he’s disappointed the soreness in his back will force him to miss two weeks, but doctors told him treatment and rest are best.

Pistons guard Allen Iverson is returning to Detroit for further examination of his stiff back and will miss Detroit’s game at the Orlando Magic. The Pistons said Iverson’s MRI exam Friday came back negative. His status for Detroit’s game at Boston on Sunday had not been determined. Iverson aggravated the injury in the Pistons’ 90-87 loss to New Orleans on Wednesday night.
